Bulihan Festival 2012

The Bulihan Festival was conceptualized by Sampaloc Mayor Emmanuel Jesus Torres as a way of highlighting the importance of the peace-loving town’s buri industry. Called buli in the vernacular, buri is abundant in Sampaloc and buri bags and hats are a major industry and source of income for the townsfolks.
The town is a major supplier of buri products, participating in major trade fairs regularly, yet little is heard about Sampaloc, much unlike its neighboring town Lucban, which is famous for its Pahiyas Festival. This prompted Mayor Torres to come up with an original idea for a town festival, and because buri is its major industry, he thought of putting together the Bulihan Festival.
